As we are approaching Mother’s day , I can’t help but remember my mother’s views on health. She was born in 1921 and died in 2003. Her views on health were very radical for her generation. White bread was poison, TV caused brain atrophy, and lack of exercise would hurt your body. She started running 5 miles/day at age 50 and continued until she had worn out multiple pairs of running shoes (and both knees). For her, exercise was an important as sleep. In the days when most mothers were making creme pies, mine was making vegetable soup. Television was not allowed in our home because “if it didn’t cause brain atrophy, it certainly was not good for your eyes.” My mother was a very wise and healthy woman.
